Housewrap Provides Protection Beyond The Surface
On its own, even the best siding can’t prevent moisture intrusion. This is where housewrap is useful. It is simple to install, lightweight, and breathable, yet is has a big impact. A well-installed housewrap maintains the structural integrity of your building, increases energy efficiency, and helps prevent mold growth.

MRD Housewrap
Our customers have trusted MRD’s housewrap for many projects over the years. Our non-woven polyolefin wrap provides excellent protection against wind and moisture, shielding the home from harm caused by rain and humidity. We offer our wrap in two sizes: 10’ by 100’ and 9’ by 100’.
Typar Wrap (MRD Branding)
Typar wrap from MRD provides excellent wind and rain protection. Compared to regular housewrap, Typar is more resistant to UV rays and more resilient to tearing. It also comes in 10’ by 100’ and 9’ by 100’ sizes.
Tyvek Housewrap
Tyvek from DuPont is the most used housewrap brand in the nation. For many years, builders and homeowners have trusted it, as it is regarded as the industry standard for weather resistance and breathability. Tyvek is available in 9’ by 100’.
Low-E Housewrap
Low-E is different than other housewraps because of its reflective foil layer. This layer serves as both a conventional moisture barrier and as a heat barrier. For projects in the blistering hot summer weather, the foil layer is ideal because of its superior heat reflection. It comes in 5’ by 100’ rolls.
In addition to all of the housewrap varieties we carry, we also offer Typar tape and aluminum wrap rolls to help create a tight seal that lasts.

Housewrap Product Frequently Asked Questions:
Is housewrap waterproof?
Housewrap is not waterproof. It is very water-resistant and can block most of the elements, but over time, it will let some water seep through with prolonged pressure. Even when water gets through, it has a chance to escape into the air without going through into the wall cavity.
Does housewrap have an R-value?
Most common types of housewrap do not have an R-value, as the main purpose is moisture resistance rather than reducing heat transfer. Some specialty products are available made specifically as a thermal wrap to boost insulation, and those specialty wraps will have an R-value.
What are common problems with housewrap?
Most housewrap problems happen because of poor installation. Things like poor sealing and overlapping can create spaces where water and air can get into the home.
How much housewrap do I need for my home?
Measure the square footage of your home’s exterior walls, and that will tell you how much housewrap you will need. You can then divide your home’s wall area by the square footage of the housewrap roll to determine how many rolls you will end up needing.
Are there any alternatives to housewrap?
Yes, there are alternatives to using housewrap. One of the best alternatives is the ZIPsystem, which works by using sheathing boards and flashing tape to create a more durable protective shell than housewrap can. While it is more expensive than housewrap, it can also be installed quicker.
